What can we do to help? Few days after the huge and devastating blow in Haiti, I took a flight to Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) with two pastors and an elder from the Mission Committee of Southern California. When my family and friends heard about my trip to Haiti, everyone was concerned for the safety. "If I perish, I perish." Queen Esther's courageous confession came into my heart. By witnessing how much of the destruction caused my 7.0 magnitude earthquake in person was very different than watching from a television screen. It was a total chaos. The land below the surface had devoured the land above the surface like a starving lion. It was very difficult to define the form or shape of anything. Only the bite marks of a frantic and angry lion was visible. Unpleasant decomposed corpses were everywhere. Especially near the collapsed buildings and houses. Some of the disturbing images are posted on my facebook page. (www.facebook.com/richard.min3) The word "Hopeless" gradually made its move into my mind. How long will take for Haiti to recover from this disaster? I had no clue. A decade maybe... However I saw HIS hope in the eyes of Haitian children. They need our attention and care. Food, water and shelter are the most basic things they need right now, and in the long run, most importantly, they need good education and love of Christ. These children will rebuild and raise up Haiti. They will be "the next generation" Kingdom Builders! My sincere hope and prayer.
